EMERGENCIES WE HANDLE
The kind of thing we sort out every week
If water's going where it shouldn't, or your heating's stopped when you need it most, give us a call. Common emergencies include:
Burst or leaking pipes
Water coming through a ceiling, a pipe that's given way, or a leak you can't stop. We'll get it under control.
Boiler breakdowns
No heating or hot water and a boiler that won't fire up. Gas or oil, we'll diagnose it and get you warm again.
No hot water
No heating or hot water and a boiler that won't fire up. Gas or oil, we'll diagnose it and get you warm again.
Leaking taps and toilets
A toilet that won't stop running or a tap you can't shut off. Small on their own, but they waste water fast.
Flooding and water damage
Standing water and a job that needs sorting before it gets worse. We'll stop the source and help limit the damage.
leaks you can't isolate
Can't find your stopcock or can't shut the water off? Call us and we'll talk you through it while we're on the way.
WHILE YOU WAIT FOR US
A few things you can do right now
If you've got a leak or a burst, these quick steps can limit the damage before we arrive. Only do what feels safe.
Turn off the water at the stopcock
Your internal stopcock is usually under the kitchen sink or where the mains enters the house. Turn it clockwise to shut off the water supply and stop the flow.

2
Turn off the heating
If the leak is coming from a heating pipe or radiator, switch your boiler or heating system off to stop it circulating more water.
3
Catch and contain the water
Buckets, towels and bowls under the leak will protect your floors and buy some time. Move anything valuable out of the way.
4
Run the taps to drain down
Once the stopcock is off, opening your cold taps helps drain the remaining water in the system and ease the pressure at the leak.

EMERGENCY QUESTIONS
Quick answers when you need them
How quickly can you get to me?
It depends on where you are and how busy we are that day, but as a local team based in Chard we're often not far away. Give us a call and we'll be straight with you about how soon we can be there, rather than leaving you waiting and wondering.
What counts as a plumbing emergency?
Anything where water's causing damage or your home's become unsafe or unliveable: burst pipes, major leaks, flooding, a boiler breakdown leaving you with no heating or hot water, or a leak you can't stop. If you're not sure, call us and we'll help you work out how urgent it is.
What should I do while I wait for you?
If it's safe to do so, turn off your water at the internal stopcock (usually under the kitchen sink), switch off your heating if the leak is from a heating pipe, and use buckets and towels to catch the water. Opening your cold taps once the stopcock is off helps drain the system. We'll talk you through it on the phone if you're not sure.
Do you cover both gas and oil boilers?
Yes. We're Gas Safe registered and OFTEC registered, so we can help with breakdowns on both gas and oil heating systems, which matters for the many rural, off-grid homes across our area.
I can smell gas, what should I do?
Don't use any electrical switches or naked flames. Open doors and windows if you can, leave the property, and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 straight away. Once you're safe and the gas emergency is dealt with, call us and we'll help with the repair.
Which areas do you cover for emergencies?
We're based in Chard and cover a wide area across Somerset, Devon and Dorset, including Ilminster, Crewkerne, Yeovil, Taunton, Axminster, Honiton, Exeter, Bridport, Lyme Regis, Sherborne and the surrounding villages. Call us and we'll tell you honestly whether we can reach you quickly.
